Class was quite helpful for me in understanding the exposure triangle. Was able to get a better handle on depth of field. I enjoy the more casual nature of these group classes, the way we briefly discuss concepts and are then free to wander a bit taking photos. Students seem to naturally compare and contrast and help one another. I think there's a lack of pressure which helps strangers feel comfortable with one another. This is my second class with Tom and seems to be a good teacher and quite knowledgeable about photography and art concepts. In his composition class he turned me onto some cool art book which I appreciate.

    Tom Stermitz
Tom's photography journey began after graduating from college with a year-long South American 201cwalkabout 201d shooting street scenes and people using a Pentax camera and B&W film. Travel has always been a good source of inspiration: new cities, people, bustling markets, coastal expanses, and mountain ranges. Retiring from a career in programming, he leapt fully into digital photography, which allows both Color and B&W photographs.

Inspired by the great street photographers of the 20th Century, Tom pursues the tension between composition and content. His preference these days remains mostly with Black & White images. 201cIf color is not the subject, then B&W is preferred". He continues his fascination with street photography, and has a special fondness for Winter scenes, whether stark or ethereal.

Tom Stermitz is available for private bookings

Tom is available for solo or small group workshops, such as exploration of Fort Collins natural areas, Snow Walks.

LightRoom Tutoring is also available: Import, Organizing, Development, Cropping & Composition, B&W Conversion.
